Common Protocol Toolkit

Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the most significant infectious causes of mortality and morbidity worldwide and is the number one cause of death among those infected with HIV. Major research needs span from basic research to identify biomarkers that accurately predict outcomes of active and latent TB to clinical research to measure efficacy and effectiveness of new tools and strategies for TB. To meet this need, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) has created the Regional Prospective Observational Research in Tuberculosis (RePORT) International program to support the establishment of regional RePORT consortia in cooperation with host countries. This platform sets the stage for future combined or comparative data analyses and is an invaluable resource for in-country and cross-national collaborations between bench and clinical researchers.

Mission

The mission of the Regional Prospective Observational Research for Tuberculosis (RePORT) International is to advance tuberculosis (TB) science globally, with emphasis on translational research to provide new tools for TB control.

To do this RePORT International will promote harmonization of data across the RePORT consortia and development of TB research capacity and infrastructure

Collaboration

RePORT International welcomes collaborations with all interested investigators. The RePORT International Coordinating Center will facilitate collaborations requesting data or samples from two or more RePORT country networks. If a proposed project requires data or specimens from only one RePORT country, we recommend contacting that RePORT country network directly to expedite the process.

collaboration process

Research in RePORT International follows a concept sheet-driven process. We require a RePORT Collaborating Investigator for external investigators interested in working with RePORT data and/or samples. This RePORT Collaborating Investigator can help to determine the feasibility of the project and facilitate the concept development and review process. Interested investigators who do not have a current RePORT partner can contact the RePORT International Coordinating Center.

The concept sheet is then reviewed by the RePORT International Coordinating Center for general content and completeness, the RePORT International Scientific Review Committee (SRC) for scientific rigor, and the Executive Committee for feasibility and final endorsement. Completed concept sheets should be emailed to tbricc@njms.rutgers.edu.

common protocol toolkit

The RePORT International Common Protocol was developed for collecting data and specimens from participants in the Regional Prospective Observational Research for TB (RePORT) Consortium. The primary purpose of the RePORT International project is to provide a platform for coordinated TB research by establishing a common set of standards and definitions that are used in the context of observational clinical research to perform clinical TB research. This will enable research studies to use pooled data and well-curated biological specimens for future analysis. The RePORT International Common Protocol describes the populations and processes for collecting the specimens and data.
