Valeria Rolla, MD, PhD, earned a bachelor’s degree in medicine from Gama Filho University (1983) and a doctorate in Parasitary Biology from Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (1999). She is an Infectious disease specialist working and caring for HIV+ patients since 1986. Due to the importance of TB for the morbidity and mortality of these patients, she has been trying to contribute to a better understanding of TB-HIV interactions.
Valeria has been working as a consultant for the Brazilian HIV/AIDS department and for the tuberculosis program for TB-HIV coinfection. She has been contributing to the knowledge on IRIS and other adverse events associated with HIV as well as drug to drug interactions. She is the leader of a group that conducts clinical trials on tuberculosis and was the RePORT Brazil Co-PI from 2013 to 2019.
