Dr. Sterling is the David E. Rogers Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, and Director of the Vanderbilt Tuberculosis Center. He is an infectious disease physician-scientist with expertise in the epidemiology and treatment of TB and HIV. He has conducted several large multi-center epidemiologic and translational studies of TB and HIV. Since its inception in 2013, Dr. Sterling has served as the U.S. PI for RePORT Brazil, a prospective cohort established to perform translational studies of Mtb infection and TB disease. He has also participated in RePORT South Africa since its inception, with Vanderbilt serving as US partner for AHRI in Durban.
In addition, Dr. Sterling has participated in the International Epidemiologic Databases to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA) network of the National Institutes of Health, as a site PI for the North American ACCORD, and as a co-investigator in the Caribbean Central America South America network (CCASAnet). He will oversee data harmonization efforts, both among all participating RePORT South Africa sites, and between data from RePORT South Africa and other RePORT networks (e.g., Brazil, India, China) (Data Harmonization Work Package).
