Dr. Gao got his bachelor’s degree from Southwest Agricultural University, China. He then completed his PhD at the University of Southern California and started the tuberculosis research from 2000 when he was a postdoctoral fellowship at the School of Medicine, Stanford University.

Current research focus: Molecular epidemiology of M. tuberculosis, especially the transmission of tuberculosis in China; Genetic Diversity and Pathogenesis of Beijing Genotype Strains of M. tuberculosis; Identification and characterization of new virulence genes of M. tuberculosis
