Monika Looney

South African Tuberculosis Vaccine Initiative

Dr. Looney is a postdoc at SATVI, University of Cape Town. She received her PhD in Pathobiology from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine where her thesis work focused on dysregulation of small non-coding RNAs and methylation in human macrophages infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. As a postdoc, she investigates immune correlates of protection elicited by M72:AS01E and characterizes antigen-specific T cell responses to the TITAN vaccine antigens. She hopes to expand on this research to help deepen our understanding of how immunological responses associated with natural control of TB compare to vaccine-induced protection.
