Dr. Marissa Alejandria trained in Medicine, Adult Infectious Diseases and Clinical Epidemiology at the University of the Philippines – College of Medicine, Manila and Philippine General Hospital. She is currently Professor of Clinical Epidemiology at the Department of Clinical Epidemiology, UP College of Medicine and Clinical Professor of Medicine (Infectious Diseases) at the Department of Medicine, UP Philippine General Hospital. She also serves as Director of the Institute of Clinical Epidemiology of the National Institutes of Health – UP Manila. She recently completed her term as President of the Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases from 2020-21.
Dr. Alejandria is a clinician-researcher whose research interests span a broad range of infectious diseases from TB, HIV, sepsis, antimicrobial resistance, leptospirosis and most recently COVID-19. Her expertise is in clinic-epidemiologic research, health systems research, health care quality improvement research, clinical trials, systematic reviews and clinical practice guideline development. She participated in the 2016 National TB Prevalence Survey as Deputy Director and in the updating of the Philippine Clinical Practice Guidelines on TB.
Currently, Dr. Alejandria serves as the Project Leader/Principal Investigator of TB RePORT Philippines – National Institutes of Health University of the Philippines Manila. She leads the implementation of the RePORT projects in the country in collaboration with RePORT Consortium members. She is a member of the Leadership Group and Co-Chair of the Executive Committee of the TB Report International Coordinating Committee (TB-RICC).
