Dr. John Carlo Malabad is a graduate of the MD-PhD in Molecular Medicine program of the University of the Philippines Manila – College of Medicine. His training focused on the molecular epidemiology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the Philippines. Currently, he is an Assistant Scientist at the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Health Research and Development. His research interest includes TB epidemiology, genomics and biomarker discovery, as well as TB-HIV and TB-COVID co-infections. Presently he is involved in molecular epidemiologic studies of M. tuberculosis isolates from the Philippines’ Third TB Drug Resistance Survey and adult Filipino TB/HIV co-infected patients.

As a Junior Investigator/Co-Investigator of RePORT Philippines, he is actively involved in supervising the conduct of laboratory protocols, assisting in the management and analysis of data, and drafting research proposals to be submitted for funding and manuscripts for publication
