Dr. Meintjes, Professor and Second Chair of Medicine (UCT) and PI of the CIDRI-Africa SHIFT-TB site, has extensive experience in the diagnosis and co-morbidities associated with TB/HIV co-infection. Dr. Meintjes and Dr. Wasserman are co-Principal Investigators on an SAMRC-funded cohort study to evaluate treatment outcomes with an all-oral shorter regimen for DR-TB in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. The study, SHIFT-TB, is fully aligned to the RePORT International Common Protocol. The SHIFT- TB site will offer the consortium future additional capacity through CIDRI-Africa for expanded studies of HIV/TB co-infection and DR-TB.
