Dr. Ashutosh N Aggarwal, MD, DM, heads the Department of Pulmonary Medicine at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, an apex institute of national importance in northern India. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate training from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He later did his fellowship in Pulmonary medicine from the PGIMER, where he has served as academic faculty for nearly 20 years.
Dr. Aggarwal has more than 300 publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals. His major research interests include the epidemiology of chronic respiratory diseases, pulmonary function testing, and health-related quality of life. He helped coordinate the multicenter population-based INSEARCH study that provided estimates for prevalence and risk factors for asthma and chronic bronchitis in Indian adults. He also has a large body of research work on spirometric diagnostic algorithms in Indians, especially on comparison of Indian and Caucasian reference equations, and has spearheaded the development of spirometry guidelines in India.
