Ray (Sang Nae) Cho, DVM, PhD, is a Professor Emeritus at Yonsei University of College of Medicine, Seoul and director of International TB Research Center (ITRC), Changwon, South Korea. After earning his PhD in Microbiology from Colorado State University (CSU) in 1982, Dr. Cho worked at the Mycobacteria Research Laboratory at CSU. In 1987, he joined the Department of Microbiology at Yonsei University as a faculty member and retired in 2017.
In his early days, his research focused on immunological and molecular diagnostics in leprosy and tuberculosis. Dr. Cho initiated a research collaboration with scientists at NIAID, NIH on various projects including the linezolid trial on patients with XDR-TB, the lesion PK study, and the GeneXpert for XDR-TB. In order to facilitate these collaborative research projects, ITRC was established and now participates in a consortium project on a shortening regimen for MDR-TB with financial support from Korea Centers for Disease Control.
